In the early 1928's young communists in contact with the Workers and Peasants Party of Bengal organized the youth into a party, the Young Comrades' League. Gopal Basak, Gopen Chakraborty, Dharani Goswami and a few others took this initiative together. From its inception, the League was closely associated with the Communist Party of India and the Workers and Peasants Party of Bengal.[1] The objective of the League was to organize a radical and militant movement of oppressed and exploited youth on the basis of Marxist-Leninist ideals, to help the people, i.e. workers and peasants, in their struggle against the existing capitalist system and to establish an independent republic of India based on the socio-economic emancipation of the masses.[2]
