Young Sang Kwon

Kwon, Young Sang(권영상, 10th April, 1953 – Current) is a South Korean writer of children’s poems and short stories, literature critic, and essayist.

Education

1975. B.A. from Gangneung University of Education (The University later changed its name as Gangneung-Wonju National University)

1975-1981. B.A. in Korean Literature Education from Kwandong University (The university later changed its name as Catholic Kwandong Univeristy).

1987. M.A. in Education at SungKyunKwan University (Dissertation on ‘The research on originality in the poems of Yun, Dong-Ju’)

Works (Literary Career)

1979. (Debut) Monthly children’s literary magazine <<Adongmunye>> commented for recommendations of Kwon’s poems including ‘Bird’ for three times.

1980. ‘Road(길)’ had won the annual spring literary contest for Gangwon Ilbo(강원일보).

1982. ‘Children from Sunbeam(햇살에서 나오는 아이들)’ had won the literary prize for <Weekly Joongang Newspaper for Teens(少年中央 문학상)>.

1990. Essay ‘Orchid(난蘭)’ had won ‘New Literary Artist Prize’ for magazine <Korean Literature(韓國文學)>.

1991. ‘Foot(발)’ and other 5 poems had won ‘Literary Prize for New Writer’ for <Literature of the Time(시대문학)>.

1993. A short story ‘Mister Jurassic and his shoes(주라기 아저씨와 구두)’ had won the contest for MBC Creative Children’s Stories (MBC 창작동화 공모전).
