Your Call Football (YCF) is an interactive competition that allows fans to call the plays in a live football game. Fans vote on all offensive plays for competing teams from an app on their phone and score points based on the outcome of the play.
Your Call Football’s first game was held May 3, 2018 at Historic Dodgertwon in Vero Beach, Florida, when its two teams, Power and Grit competed for the first of three weekly match-ups. The teams were made up of former NFL and college players and were coached by former Green Bay Packers and Current Montreal Alouttes Head Coach Mike Sherman as well as former Pittsburgh Steelers running back and ESPN analyst Merril Hoge. Fans called all offensive plays via the app. Fans with the top scores won over $50k in cash prizes across the series. [1]
The technology behind the fan play-calling system was developed by Cantina out of Boston, MA. The games were streamed by Phenix and watched either through a stream within the app, on the YCF website or on YouTube. Largardere Sports oversaw all aspects of game-day production and on-air talent included former NFL cornerback and Super Bowl Champion, Jabari Greer, Fox Sports’ Jennifer Hale and Justin Kutcher, and veteran producer, Joe Whelan.[2]
Each 2-hour game in the series had more than 90 offensive plays. More than 46,000 streamed the games and more than 295,000 plays were called. [1]
The company hasn’t announced plans for a second series yet.
History[edit]
Your Call Football was founded in 2013 by the CEO of Forrester Research, George F. Colony, in Boston, MA. The concept originally focused on giving fans the power to control the outcome of live, professional football games, but evolved to include a gamified experience where fans get scored based on their coaching performance. tag for each competing team from an app on their mobile device and score points based on the outcome of the play. Beginning in the spring of 2018, two football teams are scheduled to compete on a weekly basis during which the fans will be allowed to vote on all offensive plays. YCF plans to award cash prizes to top finishers on the fan leaderboard after each game and at the end of the spring series. The games will be viewed through a stream within the app, which will be available on IOS and Android devices prior to the first game.
As of December, 2017, Your Call Football had announced former Green Bay Packers and Current Montreal Alouttes Head Coach Mike Sherman as well as former Pittsburgh Steelers running back and ESPN analyst Merril Hoge as the coaches of the two YCF teams.
Earlier in 2017, the company had announced patents on their fan play-calling technology [3]

Fan Play-Calling Competitions[edit]
Your Call Football's Inaugural Games are set to debut in 2018. According to the Your Call Football website[4], the two teams, coached by Sherman[5] and Hoge[6], will compete on a weekly basis for a span of 3 weeks. Fans competing in the Fan Play-Calling Competitions[7] are eligible for cash prizes that will be awarded to those at the top of the leaderboard after every game and at the end of the 3 week competition period. For the first series, YCF has announced that it is free to download the app and enter the competitions.
Gameplay[edit]
The game on the field will follow a similar format to the NFL with 11 players on each side of the ball. The key rule differences will include:
- 45-second game clock to allow time for fan voting
- No kickoffs
- No punts
Format[edit]
Prior to every offensive play, the Head Coach sends a bundle of 3 plays to fans' mobile phones. Each competing fan can vote for one of the three play options presented. The majority voted play is run on the field by the players and the success of the play will either earn or lose the fan points.
If a user does not vote with the majority, he or she is not impacted by the result of the play, but can earn "against the grain" points if the majority play results in a negative outcome on the field. Fans can also receive the "Coach Pick" bonus for picking the same play that the Head Coach votes for. The coaches pick does not overrule the majority picked fan vote.
Scoring[edit]
Fans who pick the majority play will receive a "Field Score". The scoring system works similar to fantasy football whereas fans can earn or lose points depending on a play's result. A loss of yards or a turnover will result in negative points while a completion or run for a gain of yards will earn points.
Examples of field score:
- .1 points per yard
- 6 points for a touchdown
- -3 points for an interception
- -3 points for a fumble
