Yuri Georgievich Lakhtachev (Russian: Юрий Георгиевич Лахтачёв; born February 9, 1962) is a Russian aircraft designer and shipbuilder of hydrofoils and wing-in-ground effect vehicles (ground-effect vehicle).

Biography[edit]

Yuri G. Lakhtachev was born on February 9, 1962 in Miass, Chelyabinsk oblast, USSR (now Russian Federation). His father was an engineer-toolmaker and his mother an economist. In 1981 he graduated from Miass automotive College with a degree in "automotive" and entered the Kuibyshev aviation Institute (now Samara National Research University) at the faculty of aircraft engineering with a specialization in "aircraft robustness". During his studies at the Institute he worked in the aviation technical club "Aeroprakt" under the leadership of Yuri Yakovlev, who later worked in the design Bureau of the aircraft designer Antonov and created his own aircraft company ""Aeroprakt" (Kiev). In 1987 Lakhtachev was sent to work in the design bureau of Gorky aviation plant named after Sergo Ordzhonikidze (now Sokol Aircraft Plant). At the plant he became the organizer of the aviation technical club "Vzlet". Participated in the design of the training glider PPO-1. In 1991 he organized and headed the design bureau in the company "AVIA Ltd." In 2013 he moved to the company "Aerohod", where he participated in the development of the air-cushion vehicle with aerodynamic load relief (WIG-effect)) "Tungus" as the chief designer. In 2014 he returned to the company "AVIA Ltd.", where he headed the design group of shipbuilding.

Aircraft[edit]

Under the leadership of Lakhtachev in "AVIA Ltd." in 1991-1995, designed and built a twin-engine, 5-seat aircraft "Accord" (prototype), which participated in MAKS air show in 1993 and 1995 years. In 1995, he led the development of a new twin-engine 7-seater aircraft Accord-201 [ru], the design of which allows the installation of floats on it as an additional chassis (amphibious version). In 1997, the plane took to the air and two days later flew to the exhibition MAKS-1997. Since 1998, the aircraft was modernized several times: designed and installed retractable floats, ski-wheel chassis and a diesel engine SR305-230. In 2007, the aircraft "Accord-201" with engines TCM IO-360-ES received a Certificate type № ST265-Accord-201. In 2012, the US began validation of the type of aircraft under the name Discovery-201.

Hydrofoil ships[edit]

From 2002 to 2004, the design Bureau of "AVIA Ltd.", headed by Lakhtachev, together with the involved shipbuilders, developed and built a boat "IGLA" at retractable hydrofoils with a total displacement of 11.2 tons. This innovative vessel was a joint project of "AVIA Ltd." and engineering company "N-Sitec". The boat was transferred to the customer and is operated to this day in the UAE. Since 2014, the design team under the leadership of chief designer Lakhtachev began designing and building a boat with a total displacement of 15 tons and retractable shallow-draught submerged foil system.

Wing in ground effect vehicles[edit]

In 2013-2014, Lakhtachev, as chief designer, took part in the development of the air-cushion craft with aerodynamic load relief (WIG-effect) "Tungus" with a take-off weight of 10 tons. Under his leadership was developed and built a self-propelled model "Tungus-CM" «Tungus» takeoff weight of 1.8 tons. This project was implemented on the order of Ministry of Industry and Trade (Russia), as one of the directions for the development of civil marine technology.

Family[edit]

Yuri Lakhtachev has been married since 1984. His wife is Elena O. Lakhtacheva, and they have two sons.
