Yutaka Iimura is a Japanese diplomat. After having studied international relations at the University of Tokyo , he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affaires in 1969 and served at various embassies including Moscow, Paris, Manila , and Washington DC. He was appointed as Ambassador in Jakarta (2002) and Paris (2006), and Special Representative of the Government of Japan for the Middle East (2009) and Ambassador in charge of cooperation for the South-east Asia( 2014).

In Tokyo, among other posts, he was Deputy Director-general for European Affairs (1997) and Director-General for International Development (1999).

His diplomatic career has made him particularly interested in the development issues and regional conflicts as well as in European affairs. It should be also noted that, as he visited more than seventy countries as professional diplomat and lived in some of them, he developed a sharp analytical sense on geopolitical issues on the Eurasian Continent.

While serving as a diplomat, he conducted research as fellow at Center for International Affairs in Harvard University and taught diplomacy at the University of Tokyo's Graduate School of Public Administration and he is currently Senior Fellow and visiting professor at National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies in Japan.

He is also July a member of the Board of Administration of the University of Tokyo as well as a member of the Board of Trustee of the Maison Franco-Japonaise.
