Yuzu is one of the first emulators of Nintendo Switch, developed by the Yuzu Team.[1][2][3] It is developed in C++ programming language. Yuzu can currently run select homebrew titles[4] and certain commercial software. Yuzu requires OpenGL version 4.3 or later to run.[5]

Yuzu is free and open-source and is available for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Most of the development happens on GitHub, and more than 140 developers have already contributed to Yuzu's project on GitHub.[6]

Yuzu can boot commercial games as of April 15th, 2018. The first games to boot in the emulator were The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+, Puyo Puyo Tetris, and Cave Story+.[7]

The first game to run with 3D graphics on Yuzu was Minecraft: Story Mode.[8]

The Yuzu project was started in spring of 2017 by bunnei, one of the original authors of the popular Citra 3DS emulator, to experiment with and research the Nintendo Switch. Due to the similarities between the Switch and the 3DS, Yuzu was developed as a fork of Citra. This means that it uses the same project architecture, and both emulators benefit from shared improvements.[9]
