Zacarias Kara (born 18 May 2002), known professionally as Zac Kara, is a Canadian actor and chef. He appeared on Season 4 of Masterchef Junior. He also appeared on Netflix's Grand Army.
Early Life[edit]
Zac Kara was born in Toronto, Ontario on May 18, 2002 [1] and moved to Orlando at age eight.[2] He played competitive junior tennis and decided to audition for Masterchef Junior[3]at the age of twelve.
Career[edit]
Graham Elliot mentioned that Kara learnt how to cook to compete on Masterchef Junior, approaching it with the same dedication and passion he put towards tennis.[4] Kara is self taught, having enrolled himself onto an online culinary school.[5] Kara first appeared on TV as a contestant in 2015.[6] He was eliminated as in the final four with Pig Ear Frisee salad, even though Gordon Ramsay had considered Kara to be the front runner.[7] He has also competed on Stove Tots,[8] and Guy's Grocery Games. Kara is a popular celebrity teen chef for morning shows having appeared on CBC's The Goods,[9] The Marilyn Denis Show,[10] Breakfast Television,[11][12] Atlanta & Company,[13] and Daily Flash TV. He has also been on the Karen Hunter Show[14] and the Drew Carson Show.[15]
Kara has also competed in culinary competitions. He was the youngest chef to be invited to compete with top Orlando Chefs in the Florida Hospital Charity, Gourmet Soiree and placed in the top five.[16] [17] In 2017, he was the youngest head cook to compete in the 2017 Canadian Food Championships. Kara has also hosted a pop up restaurant serving a nine-course menu.[18] The documentary, Serve It Up, was entered in TVO's Short Doc Contest Submission in 2018.[19] In 2018, his cookbook, Cooking Up Life[20] was nominated for the Taste Canada Award.[21] He opened a coffee shop, Drippin Coffee in Toronto in 2019.[22]
Kara won the Young Entertainer Award for Best Young Actor - Web Performance.[23] He played the lead in the short film, Kashif which was selected for the Young Creators Showcase at TIFF Next Wave.[24] In 2020, at the age of seventeen, Kara appeared as Omar in Netflix series, Grand Army.[25][26][27]
