Zainab Aqeel Khan (/əˈkiːl kɑːn/; born December 11, 2007) is an Australian businesswoman and the founder of the AI Governance and Critical Infrastructure company Khyrene. She currently serves as the firm's Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) and is recognized for her participation in civic leadership and international education programs in New South Wales. Her accolades include being selected as a delegate for the NSW Schools Constitutional Convention at Parliament House.[1]

Early life and education

Khan was born in Al Zahiyah, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates on December 11, 2007 and is the eldest of two children to a Pakistani family. She is the daughter of a homemaker and the director of Australian-based cybersecurity company SecureAlign Consulting[2]. Khan spent her early childhood in Dubai, United Arab Emirates before relocating to the Hornsby Shire, a suburb of Sydney, Australia, at the age of seven.

She attended Asquith Girls High School (now Asquith High School following its transition to co-education in 2026). During her secondary education in Sydney, she achieved a Band 6 in HSC Legal Studies[3], a distinction awarded for high-level performance in the law system and human rights.

Khan is currently attending the University of Sydney[4] (2026–2028), where she is pursuing a Bachelor of Economics (BEc) with specializations in Economics, Marketing, and Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Additionally, she has completed professional development in emerging technologies, including the Artificial Intelligence and Business Specialization from the University of Pennsylvania.

In 2024, she was selected by the Parliament of New South Wales as a delegate for the NSW Schools Constitutional Convention[5]. During the event at NSW Parliament House, she participated in workshops and debates focused on Australian democratic reform and constitutional law.

Khan is the founder of Khyrene[6], where she leads the company's strategic growth as the Chief Strategy Officer. Under her leadership, the firm focuses on Agentic AI Governance and Safety Infrastructure.
