Zee Sarthak (formerly Sarthak TV) is an Indian general entertainment pay television channel broadcasting in Odia language. It was initially named as Sarthak TV and owned by Sitaram Agrawal since 2010. In 2015, it was taken over by Zee Entertainment Enterprises. It broadcasts Odia programming, such as family dramas, comedies, reality shows, crime shows and telefilms.

History

The channel was established on 1 November 2010 as Sarthak TV, owned by Sarthak Entertainent. In 2014, the channel premiered Mu be Heroine Hebi, a launching pad for potential actresses, and male-oriented reality show Sadhaba Pua.[1] The channel that year was already increasing its ratings.[2][3]

Sarthak TV was an independent channel until July 2015, when Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited acquired Sarthak entertainment for Rs 115 crore. This acquisition put it inside Zee's group of regional channels and was subsequently renamed Zee Sarthak as consequence.[4] The acquisition caused the channel to become the leading GEC channel in Odisha, surpassing former leader Colors Odia.[5]

In 2020, due to the effects of the pandemic, Zee Sarthak adjusted some of its programming to the then-current circumstances and started airing slots where repeats of popular programming from the channel were requested from social media posts. It was also the first Zee channel to air a programme adapted to the situation, Lockdown Challenge.[6] In June 2022, it initiated a new brand campaign, focusing on the women of Odisha, in order to boost its public image.[7] Since 2020, Zee Sarthak is the most-watched Odia GEC.[8]
