Zeki Doğan, (1895, Istanbul - 17 March 1961, Istanbul), Turkish soldier. The first commander of the Turkish Air Force.[1]
He entered the Turkish Military Academy on October 27, 1913. In the 2nd year of the Military Academy, he was promoted to the rank of Cavalry Ensign due to the war conditions when the World War I broke out in 1914. Between 1914-1918, he served as a team commander in various cavalry units. While under the command of the Turkish 4th Army on the "Sinai Front" (Sinai and Palestine campaign), he was captured between 18 September 1918 and 25 May 1919. He returned to Istanbul after his captivity.
He went to Anatolia in 1919 and joined the Turkish War of Independence. During the Great Offensive, he became one of the first Turkish commanders to enter Izmir with the 14th Cavalry Regiment under his command. It was transferred to the air class on May 15, 1924. He studied aviation until May 1, 1925. He was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General in 1940. In this rank, he served as the 1st Aircraft Brigade Commander and the Air Undersecretary of the Turkish Ministry of National Defense. He was promoted to the rank of Major General in 1942. He was appointed as the first commander of the Turkish Air Force on February 4, 1944.[2] While he was the Air Force Commander, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General in 1945 and to the rank of General in 1948. He left this post on 7 June 1950 and was appointed as a member of the Turkish Supreme Military Council (SMC). While in this position, he retired on October 1, 1951. He died on March 17, 1961.
