Zero (零戦燃ゆ) is a war movie distributed by Toho. Produced by Toho Film. It was produced with a production cost of 1.5 billion yen. The final work of the "8.15" series following 1981's "Union Fleet" [1]. The movie depicts two young men as the main characters from the start of the Pacific War to its end[2].
For this movie, a total construction cost of 70 million yen was used to restore a Zero Fighter, and the material is the same Duralumin as the real thing [3]. After filming, this Zero Fighter was preserved and exhibited at Maritime Self-Defense Force Iwakuni Base[3].
The air battle scene uses the same radio control as in "Samurai in the Sky" directed by Koichi Kawakita, the special effects director [3]. In the shooting down scene of B-29, the piano wire was used to shoot the scene. [3] depicts an aerial battle by connecting cuts. As of 1999, the B-29 miniature has been confirmed to be stored in the warehouse of the Toho Special Art Division [2].
