Zeta Mu Phi (ZMΦ) is the first multi-platform sorority, including virtual. The organization was created in Peoria, Illinois and established at The Pennsylvania State University in July 2019 by its founder, Jona Hall. It began spreading nationally to colleges worldwide in 2021. The purpose of the organization is to help lead the new generation of women with equality, support and acceptance through numerous ways including giving back to their communities and Thorn, encouraging diversity, ensuring educational developments, exemplifying excellence, providing support, and appreciating sisterhood with the utmost loyalty and respect.
Zeta Mu Phi is a legally recognized 501(c)7 organization that operates with an internal International Council. The official executives include Jona Hall, Lisa Mitten, Maria Espinosa and Cristina Candullo DeGraaf. Of the original founders, Jona Hall and Cristina Candullo DeGraaf still serve. The sorority is a unique crossover of social and service, modernizing outdated Greek organizational customs. It is not tied to a national umbrella and has no intention of doing so.
Membership
Zeta Mu Phi keeps a roster of 30 members per chapter/college and is currently listed at multiple campuses including The Pennsylvania State University, University of Phoenix, Purdue University, and many more. Their 'Collegiate United' chapter is a groundbreaking one-of-a-kind experience that allows women from all colleges worldwide to participate in one chapter, including students from colleges that do not offer Greek life.
Insignia & Symbols
The official colors of Zeta Mu Phi are turquoise and white. The jewel is the peridot, which represents strength. The official flower is the peony, representing prosperity and good fortune. The Phoenix is the mascot and represents rebirth. The official crest was created by Lisa Mitten in 2020, and the hand symbol was created by Jona Hall in 2021.
All symbols were chosen during the creation of the original Zeta Mu Phi constitution in 2020
Philanthropy
The sorority is one of Thorn's [1] top fundraisers, raising an estimated $25,000 annually. Each chapter in the organization raises a minimum of $1,000 per year. Thorn is a non-profit organization dedicated to fighting child trafficking and abuse. The sorority also has an Act of Kindness month, in which the sisters individually demonstrate kindness in their communities, such as providing donations to local homeless shelters.
