Zoe Croft (born in Hammersmith, London) is a British model, television and screen actress.

Personal life[edit]

Zoe Clare Croft is a multi-award-winning[1]English actress, filmmaker, writer and composer. She is best known for portraying statistician Greta Allinson in the BBC medical drama Holby City (2018-2019). Zoe has previously spoken on the importance of accurately portraying characters with autism and how well the BBC had done in demonstrating the spectrum of neurodivergent people[2] [3] Although she has also voiced her frustration at the limited portrayal of disability in the media[3] and her passion for positive representation.[4] Growing up she wanted to be a writer, but due to a learning disability struggled in school. [5]She was told that 'people like her' don't become writers. Nearly a decade later her first short film, Some Way Out, that she wrote, illustrated and starred in won several awards - including best writer.[6]

Portrayal of Disability[edit]

In 2018 producers at Holby City introduced the character of Greta Alison (portrayed by Croft)as the love interest for the character Jason Haynes. The role was groundbreaking - as it was one of the first times a mainstream show had featured a female character with aspergers [7] The role was then further developed into 2019 as it was saw Greta and Jason become to parents to baby Guinevere and later get married.[8] Holby City producer Simon Harper saying that "this joyous episode celebrating love and commitment in all their diverse forms," [9] [10] [11] Sue Haasler writing for Metro described Jason's nuptials as a "festive, if very cold, wedding" and said the episode was "beautiful" with happiness, sadness and a "wonderful script" by neurodiverse writer Ed Sellek. [8]

In 2021 Croft took the lead role in Caroline Day's Hope Nicely's Lessons for life[12] portraying Hope, a young woman with Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder. The work also features music composed and performed by Croft and inspired by the character of Hope [1][13] For her work on Hope Nicely's Lessons for Life she received the Best New Voce award [14]from the publishers association.
