Zvi Landsman (Hebrew: צבי לנזמן) is an Israeli film director, cinematographer, and film producer..[1].. He is the creator of "The Therapy" (Kan 11) a film documenting conversion therapy for the first time from within the therapy room.[2]. Landsman is the winner of the Grand Jury Award at the Docaviv Festival and a grantee of a production grant from the Sundance Fund.[3][4][5]
Biography[edit]
Landsman was born in Yeruham to a religious family. Between the years 2002-2006 he enlisted and served in the army in the Orev unit of the Nahal Brigade, and as a platoon commander and training officer in the Bedouin reconnaissance battalion. After his release, he pursued dance studies in the Vertigo Dance Company and studied cinema at the Beit Berl College, Faculty of Arts. he pursued his Cinema studies from 2008 to 2013 at the Sam Spiegel School of Film and Television and completed his degree with honors[6]
In 2020, he founded a film and television production company - Tree House Productions[7]
Landsman is single and lives in Tel Aviv.
His films as a director[edit]
In 2011, he wrote and directed "Your Warmth"[8], a short student fiction film that participated in gay and lesbian film festivals around the world, including in Tel Aviv, Mumbai, San Francisco and Thessaloniki. Landsman even acted in the film. In 2014, he wrote and directed "After All", also a short fiction film, which won praise and honorable mentions at student film festivals in Tel Aviv and Munich, it was screened at the Jerusalem Festival as well as the ShorTS Film Festival held in Italy, and also won three Sam Spiegel Film Awards for the film, for the cinematography (Eitan Hatuka), and the Acting (Yosef Carmon).
Between 2016 and 2018, he co-directed with director Itay Akirev "Living Tongue"[9] - a collection of short films about contemporary poets[10]
In 2021, he directed his first full-length documentary "The Therapy"[11][12]. The film follows conversion patients who undergo treatment and reveals for the first time what is happening within the closed world of conversion therapy rooms. The documentary was endorsed by Kan 11, the New Fund for Film and Television, the Maimonides Fund, and the prestigious Sundance Institute Documentary Fund, USA. The film "The Therapy" won the Grand Jury Award at the DocAviv Film Festival 2021[13], it was screened at the official competition at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, at the official competition at the Movies That Matter Festival in The Hague, at the San Francisco Jewish Film Festival and was selected for distribution by The Film Collaborative, Los Angeles.[14][not in citation given]
His films as a cinematographer[edit]
In 2015, Landsman was the cinematographer for the film "The Mute's House"[15] directed by Tamar Kay, winner of the Full Frame Festival, Krakow, and Grand Jury award at IDFA. The film was also included in the Oscars' shortlist (2017).[16]
In 2017, he filmed the series "Trail Angels" for Kan 11, the Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation, and in the same year he filmed for "The Museum" by director Ran Tal[17][18]
In 2018, he filmed the Israeli documentary series "Ambulance" of TV Network Reshet 13 and in 2019 he filmed the web series "The Search Bureau for Missing Relatives" of the Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation[19]
