Resolution Films, formally Resolution Productions, is a film, video and broadcast production company based in Doha, Qatar.
History
Resolution Films is one of the pioneering production companies in Qatar. Kirby Kearns, an Irish / Australian dual national founded the company in 2007 following the successful completion of a two-year contract with Melbourne based sports production company to produce films for the Doha Asian Games in 2006. When the firm completed the work and left Doha, he stayed in Qatar and nurtured the underdeveloped film and video production industry, ultimately laying the foundation of Resolution Films.[1],.[2]
Initially operating out of Kirby’s apartment, Resolution Films’ began its steady growth after Kirby signed a 24-month contract with Qatar Gas to produce an ongoing series called QGTV. He employed his first employee when he signed a contract with the Qatar Gas and Within 12 months employed 22 more.[3], [4] Kirby is currently Group Chairman and the current group CEO is Simon Ferguson.[5]
Production
Since inception Resolution Film has produced many documentaries, short films, and corporate films and many have won awards. The film “Secret of My Success” produced by the company for the RasGas Company won Cannes Corporate Media & TV Award and Hermes Creative Awards.[6] The film also won Silver World Medal at the New York Film Festival.[7], [8]
Resolution Films’ movie for Hammad Medical Corporation, “A Noble Profession” won Silver Award at Cannes Corporate Media & TV Award in 2015.[9]
‘Maersk Oil Qatar - Workplace of Choice’, a film produced by the company for MaerskOil Qatar won a gold award at the AVA Digital Awards.[10]
Social awareness and responsibility
Resolution Films produced a short film, “Generosity is its Own Reward” for Qatar Cancer Society as corporate social responsibility. For the production of the film, the company developed a smart funding initiative that brought together many of Qatar's largest organizations, including Ooredoo, Barwa Bank, Qatargas, Al Faisal Holdings, QTV and Qmedia.,[11][12]
The company also plays role in the nurturing of the fresh students from top universities of the country and promoting the local film making.[13], [14],.[2]
