¡Viva, Hermanos! is the second live album by the american rock band Ten Inch Men, released in 2008. Recorded during the south american leg of Army of Anyone Tour, it marked the last appearance of guitarist Dean DeLeo and bassist DeanDeLeo on new material, as they decided to reunite Stone Temple Pilots.
¡Viva, Hermanos! not only captured the essence of their live performances but also served as a poignant farewell to keyboard player Jim Schumacher, who passed away in 2016. The band would take a hiatus until 2017, returning with original members Mark Templin and Rusty Riopelle.
Background[edit]
Vocalist Dave Coutts, reflecting on the recording process, expressed the bittersweet nature of ¡Viva, Hermanos! saying, "Recording this live album was both a celebration and a farewell. The energy on stage was electric, but there was a palpable sense of transition as we bid farewell to Robert and Dean, who were taking a different musical path."
Bassist Robert DeLeo added his thoughts, stating, "It was a challenging but necessary decision to reunite with Stone Temple Pilots. We left our mark with Ten Inch Men, and this live album encapsulates the final chapter of that journey."
The setlist for ¡Viva, Hermanos! was meticulously crafted, showcasing a blend of signature tracks like "Gipsy" and "Pretty Vultures" alongside new compositions such as "A Better Place" and "Goodbye". The inclusion of Mellow Yellow by Donovan added a nostalgic touch to the farewell performance.
Music[edit]
¡Viva, Hermanos! unfolds as a symphony of emotions, capturing the raw energy and chemistry of a Ten Inch Men live performance. The album kicks off with the anthemic "A Better Place", setting the stage for an unforgettable journey through the band's catalog.
The emotional depth of tracks like "Goodbye" and "John" creates a poignant contrast to the celebratory energy of hits like "Non Stop" and "Flower Power". The dynamic interplay between the band members and Schumacher's keyboards adds a layer of complexity, making each track a unique experience.
