Öppna Skolplattformen is a Swedish citizen initiative to build an app for accessing data from Stockholm’s school system.[1] The City of Stockholm developed its own app, producing an expensive system (more than $117 million[1]) and an application that led parents to complain about its complexity. Some parents built an open source version using the system's API and made it available on iPhone and Android. On February 12, 2021 the app was released and its code published on GitHub.[2]
The reaction from the city was not positive. They warned parents to use the official app and tried to sue the developers. They redesigned the API to force the citizen developers to redesign their app.
