1952 is a novel by the Egyptian novelist Gamil Atia Ibrahim. Moreover, he is one of the founders of the literary magazine (Gallery 68). 1952 novel is one of the important novels during Arabic Literature as his novel ranked among the best 100 Arabic Novels. In addition, it was published in 1990, it consists of three parts: (1952), (1954 Papers) and (1981). It reflects the life and suffering of Egyptian people in that crucial year of its history. [1]

Story[edit]

The novels revolve around the suffering of the Egyptian people and their conditions year 1951, until the 1952 revolution. In that time Egyptian people were suffering misery, poverty, injustice and resistance to English occupation. Adding that through the different personalities, social classes, merchants, princesses, peasant’s intellectuals and even some foreigners.

The novel 1952 shows a struggle between two groups. The first group: defends the totalitarian regime as the ideal system to preserve the revolution. The second struggle: defends the liberal system and many parties. However, the first group wins due to the methods that the writer explains in the novel. [2]

Analysis[edit]

The novelist sheds light on the aspects of mightiness and meanness in his characters. As it conveys the incidents that occurred in the last month of the Egyptian royal family. To start with the incidents of Cairo fire, which affected the most important commercial streets, in late January 1952 as the tension with the British force militarized in the cities of the Canal, specifically (Ismailia). The government building uses its heavy weapons against the Egyptian forces in the place the bombed occurred. According to their personal interests, they also depict the cruelty of some ruler, not to forget their political goal and interests.[3]
