1988dec1 is a cryptic account on Instagram know for leaking information on certain topics. The account is most notable for posting about the hiatus Twenty One Pilots, the band, continues to be on. The account was formed on June 10th, 2015 and now has over 3,000 followers. [1] As far as fans know the owner/s live in or near Columbus, Ohio. The account was formerly ran by Casper Douglas who later gave up the account. The account has formed a reputation on YouTube [1], Twitter [2], and on Instagram. Their cryptic post usually involves coding such as, Morse code, caesar cipher, binary, and other cryptographic languages. The new owner has remained anonymous and there is not much information on them however they claim their information comes from an outside source.

In an attempt to disprove accounts that were fake, 1988dec1 messaged the accounts claiming to have information then gave them dates to Twenty One Pilots shows during a small hometown tour called Tour de Columbus. After the messages were sent the fake accounts posted the dates saying something would happen on those dates. When the dates rolled around 1988dec1 posted the messages saying that they planed it out so he could reveal them as fake.

Influences and History[edit]

The former owner, Casper Douglas, went on Instagram live to speak about why he originally made the account saying he wanted to make a place where there would be a community working together on one goal and help each other out. He also stated that he wanted to work in the film industry and later left for the same reason.

Predictions and Theories[edit]

The account has predicted the release of the album blurryface by Twenty One Pilots as well as their hiatus, that other accounts pertaining to an album release were faked (examples: 1922dec16 [3] and theblurryecho [4])

Followers of 1988dec1 often theorize about their post, such as saying they are actually close to Tyler Joesph and Josh Dun (however this theory was later reveled to be incorrect). Fans also believe they the could work for the band or just be hacking for information. No one really knows how they get information yet.
