The Karanda massacre was a massacre conducted in the village of Karanda in Bardhaman District, where 6 to 7 Indian People's Front supporters and leaders were allegedly killed by members of the ruling CPIM party, 24 Indian People's Front supporters were badly injured.
Behind the Massacre
On the 1993 Panchayat election, CPIML Liberation's electional organisation Indian People's Front were elected on 100 seats in Bardhaman District. Indian People's Front elected 3 seats in Karanda Village. After the panchayat election, the ruling CPIM party attacked the houses of Indian People's Front leaders and supporters. CPIM killed Indian People's Front leaders and supporters – Dilip Pakre, Som Kura, Hiru Malik, Sadhan Nayek, etc.
Trial
Police arrested 19 CPIM leaders and supporters out of 84 accused leaders and supporters. In 2009, the Kolkata High Court decided the case. The Supreme Court decided to review the case.
