Elections for the governor of the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug took place on December 22, 1996. Alexander Nazarov would win the election with 65.18% of the votes. In second place was former People's Deputy of the USSR and head of the Vladimir Yetylin, who received 21.04% of the vote.
