2nd Regular Division |
1st Infantry (Regular) Division was activated in 1936 as first maneuver unit Philippine Commonwealth Army as Philippines was gearing towards its independence from United States of America.
Initially, Brigadier General Guillermo Francisco was appointed to command at its initiation, he has Col. Rafael Garcia as his Chief of Staff. In 1938, Brigadier General Mateo Capinpin took command of the division and trained the division to a formidable force but due to lack of funding his was division was issued with WW I era weapons. As the Army is expanding, his troops are disseminated as his men are sent to different location of the country to be a trainer and instructors to other reserve units. In 1940 the division was technically non-existent.

World War II[edit]
At the outbreak of WWII in December 1941, the division was reactivated again under the command of BGen. Fidel V. Segundo, a USMA graduate and the superintendent of newly established Philippine Military Academy. It was comprise of 1st and 3rd Infantry Regiments, as 2nd Infantry Regiment under LCol Calixto Duque is stationed in Mindanao. 4th Infantry Regiment was added along with 1st Field Artillery Regiment and headquarters units in Camp Murphy. The division was assigned to South Luzon Force under MGen. George M. Parker. They engaged Japanese landing forces in Tayabas (Quezon) province.
BGen. Albert M. Jones acting commander of South Luzon Force withdraw his forces on December 24, 1941, as ordered by USAFFE headquarters. Gen Segundo with his division along 41st, 51st Divisions, and Provisional Infantry Brigade (PC) along with supporting units immediately took withdrawal actions while maintaining forces to cover and delay the enemy.
Bataan[edit]
1st Regular Division was assigned to west sector under MGen. Wainwright's I Philippine Corps (NLF), here the division engagement the enemy from January to April. BGen. Segundo was replaced by Col. Kearie Berry as he became Provost Marshal of the I Corps. Col. Berry commanded the division until its surrender along with entire Luzon Force of MGen. Edward P. King Jr., on April 9, 1942.

Post-War[edit]
After the war in 1945, Philippines gained its independence from United States of America 1946. The new Philippine Army was reactivated the 10 Military districts across the country. The division was not reactivated as Philippine Army resorted to reestablished the constabulary and created Battalion Combat Teams instead.
In 1956, Philippine Army reactivated a new 1st Infantry (Tabak) Division to fight communist insurgents in Central Luzon, it is one of the 12 active divisions of the Philippine Army.
