The 2001 Cyprus International Tournament was the fourth edition of the Cyprus International Tournament. The matches were held on 26 and 28 February 2001 in Cyprus, between hosts Cyprus, Lithuania, Romania, and Ukraine. The tournament was played in a cup format, with only four games played (two semi-finals, a final, and a third-place match).[2][1][3] It was won by the Romanias after beating Lithuania 2–1 in the final.
Participating teams[edit]
Summary[edit]
Played on 26 February, the first match put hosts Cyprus against Lithuania, and the Cypriots led for most of the match, but two late goals from the Lithuanians (Danilevičius and Poškus) made up for an epic turnaround.[4] In the final, they faced a Romania side who had beaten Ukraine 1–0 in extra-time. Romania comfortably won 3–0 with a brace from Man of the Tournament Ionel Ganea.[1]
