The 2002 Cyprus International Tournament was the fifth edition of the Cyprus International Tournament. The matches were held on 12 and 13 February 2002 in Cyprus, between hosts Cyprus, Czech Republic, Switzerland, and Hungary. The tournament was played in a cup format, with only four games played (two semi-finals, a final, and a third-place match) and it was won by the Czechs after beating the hosts 4–3 in the final.[1][2][3]

Summary[edit]

Played on 12 February, the first match put hosts Cyprus against the Swiss, and resulted in a 1–1 draw, with the Cypriots then winning the penalty shoot-out 4–2.[1] In the final, they faced a Czech Republic side who had beaten Hungary 2–0, and although they scored first, the hosts ultimately lost 3–4 after a dramatic finish that saw three goals in the last 5.[4]
