The Pittsburgh Steelers were playing in their first AFC Championship Game since 2005, where they beat the Denver Broncos 34-17. The Steelers won 23-14 thanks to a late Pick 6 by Troy Polamalu, reaching Super Bowl XLIII, and defeating the Arizona Cardinals.
