The 2020 iHeartRadio Podcast Awards were held on January 17, 2020 at the iHeartRadio Theater in Los Angeles.[1][2] The ceremony was hosted live on LiveXLive and the iHeartRadio app. Will Ferrell, host of the Ron Burgundy Podcast, hosted the event. Aaron Mahnke host of Lore, David Chang host of the Dave Chang Show, and Gavin DeGraw presented the awards throughout the event. The ceremony's special awards went to Life Kit which won the Podcast Innovator Award, Tenderfoot TV's Payne Lindsey and Donald Albright who won the Podcast Pioneer Award, and New York Times' 1619 podcast which received the Social Impact Award. In addition to the three special awards there were twenty-seven other categories that received awards, which was seven more awards than the previous year.[3][4][5]
Fans decided the winner of the Best Podcast of the year by voting on social media between November 12 and January 10.[6] Stassi Schroder and Teddi Mellencamp both attended the event.[7]
Conan O'Brien Needs A Friend and The Ron Burgundy Podcast were both nominated for Best Podcast of the Year, Best Comedy Podcast, and Best Ad Read.[8] Revisionist History also received three separate nominations and Life Kit received two nominations in addition to the Podcast Innovator Award. Conan O'Brien Needs A Friend won the Best Comedy Podcast and Best Ad Read making it the first podcast to win two categories at a single iHeartRadio Podcast Award ceremony.[3][4][5]
Performances[edit]
Joshua Dudley of Forbes Magazine, noted that the live entertainment and performance by Gavin DeGraw livened up the event considerably compared to the previous year,[9] which he had criticised for lacking any entertainment.[10]
