The 2022 National Invitation Tournament (NIT) will be a single-elimination tournament of 32 NCAA Division I men's college basketball teams that had not been to the 2022 NCAA Tournament The Tournament will begin on March 15, 2022 and will end on March 31, 2022 First Round games will be played On March 15–17. Second Round games will be played on March 18–21 Quaterfinals will be played on March 23–24. All Three Rounds will be played on campus sites. The Semi-Finals will be played March 29 and the Championship game will be played on March 31. The Semi–Finals and Championship Game will be played at Madison Square Garden in New York City.[1].

Experimental rules[edit]

There will be five different rules for both the 2021–22 Regular Season and the postseason Including The 2022 NCAA Division I Men's Tournament and the 2022 National Invitation Tournament.

Automatic qualifiers[edit]

The following teams were guaranteed berths into the 2022 NIT field by having the best regular season record in their conference but failing to win their conference tournament. Such teams were eligible to receive an at-large berth into the NCAA Tournament but did not.

Media[edit]

ESPN, Inc. will have exclusive television rights to all of the NIT Games. It will be telecast every game across ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU and ESPN3. Westwood One will have exclusive radio rights to the semi-finals and the championship game.
