The 2022 municipal elections in Ontario will be held on October 24, 2022.

Voters in the province of Ontario will elect mayors, councillors, school board trustees and all other elected officials in all of the province's municipalities.

Electoral period[edit]

As per the Ontario Municipal Elections Act, 1996, nomination papers for candidates for municipal and school board elections can be filed from May 2, 2022, at which time the campaign period will begin.[1]

Nominations close on August 19, 2022 at 2 PM local time. Certification of nomination papers is to be completed by 4 PM on August 22, 2022.

Voting starts on October 24 from 10 AM to 8 PM.[citation needed]

Ranked ballots[edit]

The provincial government passed legislation to ban the use of ranked ballots by municipalities. London previously used ranked ballots in the 2018 election, and the municipalities of Kingston and Cambridge passed referendums in 2018 to use ranked ballots in 2022.
