This article describes the artistic gymnastics tournaments with the participation of athletes from Japan. Being a superpower in gymnastics, especially in men's disciplines, Japan Gymnastics Association has created many competitions annually for competitors to participate in, from prefectural to national level, from elementary students to seniors. Many strong athletes have been discovered and selected to men's & women's national teams.

As the international tournaments only allow a limited number of gymnasts (usually 5 or 6), many athletes with high results have been unable to perform outside domestic stages. However, scoring system in Japanese competitions are very close to those held by International Gymnastics Federation, or sometimes lower. Hence comparisons between gymnasts in each disciplines have shown how outstanding and strong athletes from Japan are.

Below is a list of competitions, Japanese gymnasts with highest results, Japanese medalists as well as national team selection methods.

Contribution scorers calculation: World Championships

  • Calculation method
    • The team contribution scorers are decided by combining with the reference scores of 3 gymnasts who already qualified to produce the best team score.
    • For 3 qualified gymnasts, their reference scores are calculated as the average of their 2 best results in each apparatus at the All-Japan individual all-around (qualifying & final) & NHK Trophy.
    • For team contribution scorers, the average of their 3 best results in each apparatus at the All-Japan individual all-around (qualifying & final), NHK Trophy & All-Japan Event Championships (qualifying & final) or Asian Championships are used to calculated their team contribution score.
    • One of the team contribution scorers must be in Top 10 of NHK Trophy, while there's no limit for the other one.
    • For gymnasts competed in vault, only the scores of their first vault attempt are chosen.
