On June 13, 2023, a mass shooting in Downtown Denver, Colorado, United States, injured 10 people, including one of the suspects who was arrested.[2] According to Denver police and investigators, the shooting had overtones related to drug sales and conflicts.

Shooting[edit]

In the early morning of June 13, 2023, many crowds gathered in Downtown Denver, Colorado, United States, to celebrate the recent NBA Finals win by the Denver Nuggets.[3] The shooting occurred in the 2000 block of Market Street at around 12:30 am, about three and a half hours after the game. Police believe the shooting occurred due to a drug deal gone wrong,[4] after an altercation erupted around an area near were celebratory crowds were gathered.[5]

The incident was captured on HALO camera footage, which are used in high-activity locations.[6] Officers interviewed occupants of a vehicle believed to be involved in the shooting and found a weapon on the floorboard and arrested the driver. Three more guns were discovered at the scene, with an additional one discovered on another wounded suspect.[7]

Victims[edit]

Of the 10 people injured, four are in critical condition.[8] All of the injured were expected to survive, and police identified that about five or six of the injured were otherwise uninvolved bystanders.[5]

Accused[edit]

A suspected shooter identified as a 22-year-old Ricardo Miquel Vazquez was wounded in the shooting and was arrested after a police chase. The 22-year-old was held on investigation of possession of a weapon by a previous offender, and possession of a controlled substance. Another suspect, 33-year-old Raoul Jones, was taken into custody after being discovered in a vehicle close to the shooting, and was held on investigation of possession of a weapon by a previous offender.[9][10] On June 23, another suspect, 24-year-old Kenneth Blakely was arrested in connection with the shooting.[11]
