British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is carrying out the first cabinet reshuffle of his premiership in 2025.[1]
Media speculation
The reshuffle was speculated to take place in the late spring or early summer of 2025.[2] Ministers like Lisa Nandy and Bridget Phillipson were discussed as possible changes.[3] Number 10 denied that Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves would be removed.[4] Louise Haigh told the media that northern female MPs are likely to be demoted.[5] Speculation increased following the 2025 United Kingdom local elections.[6][7]
Changes
- Darren Jones (Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister)[8]
- James Murray (Chief Secretary to the Treasury)[9]
- Dan Tomlinson (Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury)[10]
- Baroness Shafik (adviser)[11]
- James Lyons (departed as strategic communications director)[12]
- Nin Pandit (departed as Principal Private Secretary to the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom)[13][14]
Analysis
The reshuffle was described as a "reset".[15] Kier Starmer called it phase 2 of his government.
