2026 Empire State Building climb
On 01 July 2026, Angela Nikolau and Ivan Beerkus climbed the Empire State Building and unfurled a banner saying "When the power of love beats the love of power, the world knows peace." The quote has been incorrectly attributed to Jimi Hendrix, but is actually spoken by William Gladstone. Beerkus proposed to Nikolau, who accepted. Nikolau and Beerkus were arrested by New York City Police Department. The two were charged with reckless endangerment, burglary, criminal mischief, criminal trespass, disorderly conduct, criminal tampering, and possession of burglar's tools.[1][2]
