The 2031 ICC Cricket World Cup will be the 15th edition of the Cricket World Cup, a quadrennial One Day International (ODI) cricket tournament contested by men's national teams and organised by the International Cricket Council (ICC). It is scheduled to be played in India and Bangladesh in October and November 2031.[2] This will be the second time that India and Bangladesh will have co-hosted the tournament, after the 2011 edition, which they hosted along with Sri Lanka. India will host the tournament for the fifth time, the joint most times along with England, while Bangladesh will host it for the second time. The tournament will expand to 14 teams,[3] and will have the same format that was used during the 2003 edition.[4]
Format[edit]
The competition will use two groups of seven teams, with the top three teams in each group progressing to a Super Six stage which will be followed by semi-finals and a final.[1] Each team in a group will play all the other sides in the same group once.[citation needed] The format was previously used in the 2003 edition. However, a modified version of points carry forward (PCF) from 1999 edition will be re-introduced in the 2031 edition.[citation needed]
