30 Weds 21 is an Indian Telugu-language romantic comedy miniseries written by Asamardhudu and Manoj P, and directed by Prithvinath Vanam. It is a Chai Bisket original series starring Chaitanya Rao Madadi and Ananya in the lead roles. The series is about breaking the contemporary age difference between couples. The series consisting of six episodes was released on 10 May 2021 while the season finale premiered on 14 June 2021. It was further re-edited and merged into a feature film format until it was released on 30 June 2021.[1]

Premise[edit]

The series is concerned about the age difference in a couple's marriage, where Prudhvi, a 30-year-old run-of-the-mill IT professional got married to Meghana, a lazy 21-year-old fresh out of college. It unfolds an unconventional love story that transcends generations.

Production[edit]

On 20 January 2021, the team of Chai Bisket announced a new miniseries titled 30 Weds 21, with Prithvi Nath Vanam assigned as the director. The team also released a poster on the same day, with the title and logo designed by Anil and Bhanu of AB Core Design.[8] Asamardhudu and Manoj Krishna P who were assigned as the screenwriters, worked on the script of the series on the day of the announcement.[8] Soon after the writing works were completed, the team began production on 22 February, with Chaitanya Rao Madadi and Ananya announced as the lead cast.[8] The shooting took place for twenty days in Hyderabad and completed within 24 March.[9] The editing works of the series simultaneously took place on the end of the film's shooting.[9]

The soundtrack album featured six tracks written and composed by Jimmy Jose, who also recorded vocals for five tracks. The song "Thom Tha Ra" was released on 7 May 2021, prior to the release of the series and shared by prominent celebrities across Telugu film industry. "The Daridhram Song" which featured in the series' second episode was released on 21 May 2021, and went viral with prominent celebrities praising the song and its composer on social media handles.[10] Despite being a small music bit of less than two minutes, it built the hype for the series with Anurag and Sharath Chandra, the members of Chai Bisket asked fans to perform the #DaridhramChallenge as a part of its promotions.[11]

Release[edit]

On 14 April 2021, the trailer of the series was released through YouTube to prompt positive response, however, the release date was not revealed.[11] Lokal App was the official sponsor for the series and worked on the series' promotions.[12] On 28 April 2021, Chai Bisket announced that the series will be premiered through their official YouTube channel on 10 May 2021.[12] The miniseries consisting of six episodes had each episode aired per week with the season finale premiered on 14 June 2021.[12] Despite being released as miniseries format, the makers re-edited and merged the episodes into a feature film format, which was later uploaded to YouTube on 30 June 2021.[1]

Reception[edit]

Karthik Keramalu of Film Companion South stated that, the series is neither "disappointing" nor "delightful", but serves as the thin line between "bearable" and "watchable".[13] A reviewer from 123Telugu stated that "despite the simple storyline, the breezy narration, contemporary backdrop and striking chemistry between the lead pair makes this short and sweet web series is worth watching".[14] The Indian Express, chief critic Manoj Kumar called the series "suit to the new-gen audiences with the stellar performances of the cast".[15]
