35mm: A Musical Exhibition is a work of musical theatre with music, lyrics, and book by Ryan Scott Oliver.[1]

The show is a non-traditional musical, often described as a song cycle. All of the songs in the show are unrelated to each other, each inspired by a photograph, and woven together while the audience is immersed in projections of the aforementioned photography.

Productions[edit]

The world premiere production took place in Brooklyn at Galapagos Art Space. [2] Since its premiere the shows has had productions all over the United States, as well as Canada, England, Scotland, and Japan. In 2014, Samuel French, Inc. acquired the licensing for 35mm, and it has since become a favorite for many high school and college theatre groups, despite its challenging music.

Plot[edit]

Due to the nature of this show, there is no linear plot. Each song tells a unique story and is based on one of 15 photographs by Broadway photographer Matthew Murphy.
