365 Connect is an American multinational technology company headquartered in New Orleans, Louisiana. The company is known for automated marketing, digital leasing, and resident services software platforms for multifamily housing operators and property management companies.[1]

History

365 Connect was founded on August 21, 2003, in New Orleans, Louisiana, by Kerry W. Kirby. Kirby, an American entrepreneur, created the company in 2000 after receiving an overwhelming response to a website he had created that allowed interested parties to inquire about rentals in an apartment complex. The website received inquiries at a rate of 25 completed forms to one phone call, prompting Kirby to create an online resident services portal to serve residents. He founded a corresponding operating company after being approached by multifamily housing operators to create services for their properties.[2]

During the company’s startup phase over subsequent years, it experienced modest customer adoption as the industry was slow to adapt to new technology. When Hurricane Katrina made landfall in the New Orleans area on August 29, 2005, the company’s network went offline for months. As a result, many of the company’s employees became homeless and the office was uninhabitable. Kirby moved the company’s platform to servers out of state while New Orleans continued to be shut down.[3]

Kirby was interviewed on the BBC Radio Network a few months after Katrina to discuss how he kept the company going despite the disaster. Kirby was featured in another BBC interview on the failure of the New Orleans levee system.

In 2007, 365 Connect was responsible for innovations in the multifamily housing industry, including launching a focused media website, MultifamilyBiz, to discuss the use of technology in the industry. Today the site gathers roughly 1.5 million visitors per month.

In 2017, the company entered the student housing market with the acquisition and complete redesign of the search engine uCribs.[4][5]

In 2018, 365 Connect launched an integration with Uber, which created one-click ride reservations directly from an apartment community’s website. The integration is programmed to the property’s address and automatically maps the route using location-based technology.[6]

In 2019, the company launched the multifamily housing industry’s first ADA-certified platform for people with disabilities to help them find, apply, and live in rental housing. The platform was certified under WCAG 2.1 guidelines as published by the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).[7][8][9]

During the Covid-19 pandemic, 365 Connect sought to assist properties with leasing efforts while helping them comply with social distancing guidelines. In April 2020, the company created an AI chatbot, Digi.Lease, to book and broadcast livestreaming apartment tours.[10][11]

Through its subsidiaries, 365 Connect provides marketplaces, lead procurement, media distribution, live video streaming, and scheduling software.[11][12][13]

Recognition

365 Connect has won several awards, including W3, Cloud Award, MarCom, Muse Creative, WebAward, and the Louisiana Governor's Technology Award. The company was inducted into the NOLA 100 in 2017, which recognized the top 100 high-growth companies in the New Orleans area. The event highlighted prominent area companies leading into New Orleans’ Tricentennial celebration.[3][8][14][15]

Company culture

365 Connect is regarded as a founder of the Silicon Bayou, a name given to the tech-ecosystem in the New Orleans area. The company partnered with a local non-profit, Electric Girls, to fund after-school STEM programs for girls aged 5-14 to learn skills in electronics, design, computer programming, and fabrication.[16][17][18][19][20][21][22][23]
