3FM is a radio station on the Isle of Man that started broadcasting on 17 October 2004. [1]
Transmission
3FM broadcasts to and from the Isle of Man on 104.2, 105.0, 106.2 and 106.6 FM.[2] It is also carried online via the station’s website, alongside online-only service 3FM Relax[3], and Radioplayer UK. The station’s analogue signal may be heard in North Wales, Dumfries and Galloway in Scotland[4], West Lancashire and the Fylde in England, and County Down in Northern Ireland.
Background
3FM is a local radio station on the Isle of Man, providing adult contemporary music and local news for an over-35 target audience.[5] As with all local radio stations, 3FM is licensed by the Isle of Man Communications Commission under the Broadcasting Act 1990.
History
3FM started broadcasting on 17 October 2004. That spring, it had been granted a ten-year licence to provide a service aimed at a predominantly female audience over the age of 35, with an adult contemporary playlist, “supplemented with [locally] relevant news, information and entertainment”.[6]
Content
3FM provides local programming from 06:30 to 01:00 on weekdays, 08:00 to 19:00 on Fridays and Saturdays, and 08:00 to 10:00 and 15:00 to 01:00 on Sundays, with continuous music at other times.[7]. Alongside a local news service seven days a week at peak times, 3FM also provides news from the UK and around the world through Sky News Centre-sourced bulletins.
The programme format is presenter-led with music from the last 30 years. Current presenters include Tony James on weekday breakfast, managing director[8] Jason Quinn on drivetime, Jono Evans for the evening show and Charlie Smith on the late night show.[9]
