3Racha (Hangul: 쓰리라차; RR: Sseuriracha, pronounced as three-racha) is a South Korean production and hip-hop sub-unit of the boy group Stray Kids, consist of 3 members Bang Chan, Chang-bin, and Han under pseudonym CB97, SpearB, and J.One respectively. The trio is credited as the main writers of Stray Kids' discography, alongside other credited producers.[1]
3Racha have released three mixtapes on SoundCloud J:/2017/mixtape, 3Days, and Horizon independently in 2017.[2] Several songs on these albums were later released physically as b-sides on Stray Kids albums.
Name[edit]
The group's name, 3Racha (stylized in all capital) is derived from the hot sauce, Sriracha, as a way to encourage listeners to "taste the piquant tang of their music—to feel the searing heat of their words".[3]
History[edit]
2016–2018: Formation and underground release[edit]
The group was formed in 2016 by Bang Chan, Changbin, and Han, who at that that were idol trainees under JYP Entertainment while taking MIDI classes together at the JYP Entertainment Training Center.[4] Later during an interview, Bang Chan revealed that 3racha upload their own songs on SoundCloud at that time without the company knowing about it.
On January 18, 2017, the trio released their first mixtape J:/2017/mixtape one by one every two weeks on SoundCloud and promoted it through Korean community Hiphople.[5] The mixtape consist of seven self-produced tracks, "Intro", "Tik Tok", "Runner's High", "Don Quixote", "Eunseoki" (은석이), "Wow", and "Nxt 2 U". Later one of the tracks, "Runner's High" was performed at 2017 JYP Trainee Showcase which got broadcasted as part of Stray Kids reality show episode 1.
On July 2, they performed at underground show The Ugly Junction Live(TUJL) 발아21 in Seoul. Their second mixtape, 3Days, was released on August 16. Their third mixtape, Horizon, was released on December 20.
On January 18, 2018, 3Racha released the single, "Start Line", to celebrate their first anniversary. With Stray Kids' official debut just around the corner, the theme of this song was memories of past efforts as trainees and new beginnings in the future.
2018–present: Stray Kids[edit]
3Racha officially debuted in Stray Kids with EP I Am Not through their debut showcase at Jangchung Arena on March 25, 2018.[6] The trio remained as a producing unit who mainly wrote and composed most of Stray Kids' songs.[7][8][9]
On September 9, 2018, the trio released a unit song titled "Zone" on YouTube for Stray Kids' SKZ-Player project alongside with a performance video.[10] This song later be performed live by 3Racha on M Countdown StudioM Stage in 2019,[11][12] then also got included in Stray Kids' SKZ-Replay compilation album on December 2022.[13]
On August 18, 2019, 3Racha performed a special stage for the opening of KCON 2019 LA with N.Flying.[14] On September 28, 3Racha collaborated with Ateez's Hongjoong and (G)I-dle's Soyeon to perform their song "Runner's High" at 2019 KCON Thailand.
On January 18, 2020, they released the single "Carpe Diem" through SoundCloud to celebrate their third anniversary.[15] On June 23, 3Racha performed their unreleased song "Passion" on KCON:TACT Summer 2020.[16]
On December 2, 2021, 3Racha performed an untitled song on Asia Artist Awards 2021. On December 11, the trio performed an original verse titled "Hey, Monster!" for the opening of Stray Kids' performance at 2021 Mnet Asian Music Awards.[17]
On August 20, 2022, 3Racha performed an original verse titled "Yeah" at KCON 2022 LA as the opening of Stray Kids' performance. On November 30, The trio collaborated with Jung Jae-il and Tiger JK to perform an original verse titled "Music Makes One" for a special stage at the 2022 MAMA Awards.[18]
In 2023, the trio was selected as the 3 of 25 annualy new regular members of Korea Music Copyright Association based on royalties they earned in the past 3 years.[19][20] On September 23, 3Racha performed at the 2023 Global Citizen Festival in New York.[21][22] They won the best creator award at the 8th Asia Artist Awards.[23][24]
In 2024, they worked on the music producing of an original soundtrack titled "Why?" for the Japanese Drama Re: Revenge – Yokubo no Hate ni .[25][26] The OST topped various global music charts.[27] The trio also worked with Charlie Puth through a song camp and produced "Lose My Breath".[28][29]

Each alias derives from a play on words:
- CB97 is derived from Bang Chan's legal name, Christopher Bahng, and the year he was born, 1997.
- SpearB is derived from the Hangul for Chang (Hangul: 창) which can mean either "window" or "spear", and the "B" from the second syllable of his name, Chang-Bin.
- J.One is derived from the Hangul for Han (Hangul: 한) which means "one", and the "J" from his full name, Han Ji-Sung.
