51Give is a Chinese e-commerce platform which provides online tools and processing services to enable the collection of charitable donations in China. The company was established in Beijing in 2007 by co-founders Daniel Foa and Hiu Ng, a niece of China's paramount leader Xi Jinping.[1] As of January 2015, the platform had more than 100 registered charities and more than 40,000 active donors. Donations for charitable causes are made by users via the website or using a dedicated mobile app, with 0% transaction fee.
The name 51give comes from the Chinese phrase 我要给予 wǒ yào gěi yǔ ("I want to give"), the first two words of which sound similar to wǔ yào, "five one". This wordplay has also become the company's slogan: "I Want To Give".
