The 9.1x17R[1] was a proprietary centerfire pistol cartridge developed in the late 19th century and used by the Portuguese military. The cartridge was utilized originally in the Model 1878 Officer's Revolver which used the Abadie System[2]. It was subsequently used in the Model 1886 Trooper's Revolver[3].
The majority of 9.1x17R cartridge production occurred in Portugal. This ammunition is considered obsolete and there is no current commercial production.
