901 (PTV Bus)

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

  • Comment two of the sources that were originally deemed useful for proving GNG were both considered unnotable as per Dan arndt. In response, I have added an additional article with significant coverage and two articles with partial coverage, so now two sources fully show that the bus route is notable and two show it is partially notable.

(only remove text in brackets once moved to main space. Please read the talk page for this article for the source assessment table if you disagree with the notability. Mention why so it can be improved upon.)

Route 901 is a bus route operating in Melbourne, Victoria, that is operated by Kinetic Melbourne. The bus route is one of 3 orbital SmartBus routes on the Melbourne bus network. It runs between Frankston and Melbourne Airport, connecting to ten railway stations and serves 232 stops spanning a total of 115 kilometres.[1][2]

History

In the late 2000s and early 2010s, orbital routes began being introduced in Melbourne as an alternative form of public transport to trains, which allowed people to get to major areas without needing to go via the city. In 2008, 901 was introduced as the yellow orbital and operated from Frankston to Ringwood. This route absorbed the former 665. Since 665 was replaced by 901, the route has had SmartBus status, which offers premium features that are only available on other SmartBus routes.[3] In September 2010, the line was extended to Melbourne Airport, making it Melbourne's second longest bus route by distance and longest by total journey time.[4]

In 2012, it was proposed that route 901 would get a new operator under a new contract. This contract was expected to last for 7 years. In 2013, this contract was given to Transdev Melbourne. [5]

Since 31 January 2022, this route has been operated by bus operator Kinetic Melbourne.[6]

In March 2022, the Victoria State Government in partnership with Kinetic Melbourne proposed to introduce at least 35 electric buses onto the network by 2025. [7]

Route and Services

Route 901 travels from Frankston to Melbourne Airport, travelling around the city and serving several shopping centres and railway stations. The current route travels via Dandenong Station, Westfield Knox, Ringwood Station, Blackburn Station, Eltham station, South Morang Station, Epping Station, Broadmeadows station and Gladstone Park.[8]
