9Apps

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

9Apps, the mobile APP distribution platform of alibaba group's mobile business group, is an international third party Android app and game store. Android phone users can download it for free without logging in. [1][2][3]
The 9Apps brand was launched in December 2013 with users in 10 emerging countries including India, Indonesia, Russia, Brazil, Southeast Asia and the Middle East . As of April 2016, the platform had an average daily APP / game circulation of over 26 million and monthly active users of over 250 million.[4][5]

Development

In December 2012, 9Apps went live.[6] In September 2013, 9Apps went live on the web. To meet more user demand, 9Apps launched a mobile client version in March 2014, opened an office in India in June of the same year, and launched in Indonesian and Russian.

Security Issues

In July 2019, the security company Check Point found an Android malware called "Agent Smith" that abused a previously known weakness in the Android operating system, replaced some applications with its own code, and infected more than 25 million devices.[7][8] Check Point says "Agent Smith" primarily infects devices in India and other nearby countries where people like to use the 9apps APP store to download apps. So "Agent Smith" is presumed to be spreading mainly through infected apps in the 9Apps APP store. 9Apps was the first to pull apps that had been infected with "Agent Smith". Updating the phone's Android system to the latest patch will prevent it from being infected by "Agent Smith. "
