9xDead are a gothic doom metal band from South Wales, United Kingdom.

Biography[edit]

Formed in 1998 by drummer Gary Appleby, 9xDead underwent a number of line-up changes and released two well received albums on independent labels before splitting up in 2007. In 2009 Appleby began putting a new 9xDead together. The band went on to make three appearances at the Hard Rock Hell festival including the 2010 Road Trip and opening the second stage of the UK festival in 2010 when Dumpy's Rusty Nuts were forced to pull out at the last minute. The band took much of 2011 off from live performances to record their album Cursed (9xDead album), with production duties handled by guitarist James Radford.

After a number of lineup changes, the band was put on an open-ended hiatus in May 2013.

The band received a mention in the novel, Foxglove Summer by Ben Aaronovitch, which was published by Gollancz in 2014.

In May 2015, videos of two new tracks were uploaded to the band's official YouTube channel, Samael [1] and Lucifer.[2] This was followed by the relaunch of the band's official website,[3] announcing the band had reformed with Gary Appleby (formerly drums, now on vocals) and Adam Rykala (Guitar/Synth Guitar) comprising part of the same lineup that had recorded Mortalitas. A number of tracks also appeared on the band's official ReverbNation page.[4]

In August 2015, John Juliette Marauder joined the band on drums. In 2017, Rebekah Morganna Nevaine joined as co-vocalist.

In 2016, a six track EP entitled "6 Songs about Pain, Suffering and Torment" was self-released with the tracks available on the bands Reverbnation website featuring a rendition of Welsh folk song "Ar Lan y Môr". A collection of other tracks is available in advance of an album release and a return to touring in 2017. Recent tracks include co-vocalist Rebekah Morganna Nevaine taking the band further into a goth doom direction
