Background[edit]
Jeremy Shorter began writing songs when he was 12 years old, around 1988.
'Inside' was originally written as the first song of a concept album. 'Jesus Christ Super-Store' was a faux-mercial, of which he has written several over the years. 'Brainwashed', 'Over & Under', 'All I Wanna Do Is Sing', 'Proverbs 5' and 'Ad America' were all experiments utilizing what little recording and music equipment he possessed. As a Clarinetist, he was unfamiliar with piano, guitar, bass, and drum performance, but knew enough about melody and harmony through instrument and vocal lessons to make the attempt.
'Know HE Is God' was written just a few months earlier that year in response to spending time with a young woman he was hoping to marry, but she broke up with him the month before the recording.
Composition[edit]
The majority of the album used a mid-80s mini Casio piano, Clarinet, finger-tapping on the keyboard, and vocals.
The songs 'In the Fullness of Time' and 'Philippians 4:19' were recorded in a studio in Fayetteville, AR with Stewart Betz on guitar, Jeremy Shorter singing lead vocals and playing Congas on the latter, and his mother Sally singing backing vocals on the 'In the Fullness of Time'.
Recording[edit]
Jeremy's first recording session was with two high school friends at a recording studio in Fayetteville, Arkansas, where they recorded the Acapella song 'Roll That Stone Away[1]', which they had performed live on stage after graduation in their home town of Gravette, AR during 'Gravette Days', August of 1994. The next two recordings, 'In the Fullness of Time', and 'Philippians 4:19', were recorded on ADAT at the same studio, at different times over the next two years. On September 3rd of 1997, Jeremy began recording the songs that would eventually become this album. The songs not completed in studio were recorded on an old dual cassette deck with a cheap Radio Shack microphone using a combination of a small cheap Casio electric piano, a Clarinet, fingers tapping on random objects, and vocals overdubbed continuously on 2 cassettes.
