A' Design Award is an international multidisciplinary annual juried design accolade organized in Como, Italy since 2009. As a part of the award ceremony, the winners receive a trophy, certificate, hardcover yearbook with an exhibition of the nominated designs..[1] and exhibition of the nominated designs are presented. In 2021, A' Design Award announced 2418 winners from 114 countries.[2][3]

History[edit]

A' Design Awards were first organized in 2009 by OMC Design Studios SRL under patronage of Comune di Como Assessorato di Cultura,[4] Bureau of European Design Associations,[5] Politecnico di Milano Facoltà di Design.[6] The first A' Design Award Gala-Night was organized in Villa Gallia, Como in 2010 when the A' Design Awards launched their Designer Rankings. In 2012, the A' Design Awards launched World Design Rankings and ceremony venue was moved to Villa Olmo.[7] From 2019 and onwards, the A' Design Award Gala-Night is being held in Teatro Sociale. Throughout the years, A' Design Award organized exhibitions in Como[8][9] and abroad.[10] In 2018, the A' Design Award & Competition became a distinct legal entity, owned and operated by A' Design Award & Competition SRL. Today, A' Design Award publishes its results in 108 languages via the International Design News Network (IDNN).[11]

Categories[edit]

The awards covers 135 prize categories, such as arts, architecture,[12] communication design,[13] automotive design,[14] typography,[15] social design,[16] futuristic design,[17] packaging design,[18] cosmetics design,[19] product design[20] and technical design.[21]

Criteria and judging[edit]

To qualify, the nominated work must be an original creation that have been created within the last 10 years.[22] Entries are accepted in all creative disciplines and industries[23] both for concepts and realized works.[24]

Entries are voted anonymously on pre-established evaluation criteria[25] following blind peer-review process by an international jury panel[26] consisting of designers, architects, academics and journalists.[27]

Nominees are graded on a scale from Iron to Platinum.[28] Results are announced annually on April 15 first to winners and May 1st to the general public[29]

Rankings[edit]

A' Design Award publishes and manages World Design Rankings and Designer Rankings that list and sort countries and designers based on their number of A' Design Awards.[30][31]
