A. Simon Vumbaca is an international strategist lawyer, music producer and non-executive director for Sunderland AFC and formerly the British Basketball League (BBL). Qualified in multiple jurisdictions, Vumbaca is fluent in English, French, Spanish and Italian. He is a member of the Society of Construction Law and the Adjudication Society. [1]. He was CEO and co-founder of Bitstop betting until 2019 when he sold the company.
Law Career
ASV Law
In 2011 Vumbaca established ASV Law[2], an international law firm based in Knightsbridge London. It specialises in delivering corporate, commercial and litigation advice.[3]
Noticeably Vumbaca has worked with: the FIA, FIM, Formula 1 circuits and teams, Moto GP, football clubs and players, high-profile athletes including Pietro Sibello and Kriss Akabusi and notable musicians and TV personalities including Bunny Wailer and Melanie Sykes.[4][5] In motorsports Vumbaca covers all aspects including event sponsorship, the maximisation of media and marketing rights, the drafting and negotiation of rules and regulations for series and competitions.
In 2015 Vumbaca was appointed to represent the Nyahbinghi Ancient Council and the EADUMC Ltd. aka RMC in legal proceedings against the government of Jamaica. The Nyahbinghi Ancient Council and EADUMC brought legal action against the Jamaican government due to lack of diligence in engaging with members of this community and of assuming complicity and liability in a range of interferences in the governance and contractual intellectual property rights of the Rastafari Community, faith and indigenous culture.[6]
In 2018, Vumbaca and ASV Law represented Madrox partners in the purchase of Sunderland AFC from Ellis Short for £40 million after back-to-back relegations saw the club plummet from the Premier League down to the third-tier.[2][7][8].

Involvement in sporting world
Motorsports
Vumbaca is the co-founder of Pit Stop betting which was unveiled by the Motorsports Network in 2018. In October 2018 Pit Stop betting was named the official betting partner of the UK's racing series, the Bennets British Superbike championship.[12] Vumbaca went on to sell the company in 2019.[13]
Vumbaca was retained since 2010 by the Bahrain international circuit to represent the international company as a whole in its negotiations in Formula 1 and other international series such as WEC and alike.
Sunderland AFC
On May 6 2021, Sunderland AFC announced a quartet of new board members including Vumbaca, Juan Sartori, Steve Davison, Maurice Louis-Dreyfus[14]. Vumbaca is currently non-executive Director at Sunderland AFC. [15]
In a statement Sunderland AFC announced that Vumbaca would "support SAFC's existing executive team in carrying out the club's long-term strategic objectives on and off the pitch, whilst further strengthening and underpinning the foundations put in place throughout the first part of 2021."[2]
Vumbaca and his three fellow board members have seen the club experience unprecedented success since their arrival. Not only have Sunderland returned to the Championship, following their successful play-off campaign in May 2022, but have also enjoyed an 18 game unbeaten run spanning over 6 months.[16]
British Basketball League
Vumbaca has been a trustee and executive committee member of the British Basketball league.[17] Following long time BBL chairman Paul Blake's decision to step down in 2013, Vumbaca joined Ed Percival as a member of the executive committee. Vumbaca commented that he was “delighted to have been asked to continue assisting the BBL in its continued development and it is with great pleasure that I accepted the position".[18] Vumbaca has also sat as head of appeals for the BBL appeal panel.[19]
