A1 is often referred to as the Roof of Africa Route and travels Eastward from Maseru along the Northern border of Lesotho, taking drivers through Mokhotlong at 5000 feet above sea level all the way up to Mahlasela Pass at 10,310 feet above sea level, before heading south past Letseng diamond mine and finally ending in Mokhotlong District at a mere 7500 feet above sea level.
