ALS Malta Foundation
The ALS Malta Foundation is a national charitable organization dedicated to supporting people with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and other neurological conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinsonism.[1] It was founded in 2015 by Bjorn Formosa after he was diagnosed with ALS at the age of 28.[2] The foundation provides round-the-clock care at its residential facility, Dar Bjorn, and supports patients living at home with medical equipment, physiotherapy, speech therapy, and counseling.[3] ALS Malta also promotes research into ALS and motor neuron diseases in collaboration with the University of Malta and the Research Innovation and Development Trust.[3] Since its inception, the organization has raised millions of euros through public campaigns, fundraising events, and partnerships.[4] Its services benefit both residential patients and hundreds of others living at home, offering specialized therapies and equipment to improve independence and quality of life.[3] The foundation operates entirely through volunteers and relies on public donations to continue its work.[1] Companies such as Meridianbet have contributed to Dar Bjorn and helped raise awareness of ALS and motor neuron disease on the island of Malta.[5]
