APKMirror is secure[2][3][4][5][6][7] and popular software repository for Android[2][8][9][10][11], which is owned and operated by staff at Android Police[2][6][5] - a popular Android news portal[2][12]. These websites are closely related[1].

APKMirror contains only free apps[8]. Applications can be browsed and downloaded from the website without having to register an account[5]. For each application, APKMirror provides multiple versions of it[2][5] and various information about it obtained from Google Play. If an app that was installed with APKMirror receives an update from Google Play after being installed on your device, it will be automatically updated to the latest version[2]. The website allows you to download applications before they become available on Google Play and bypass regional locks[13].

All files uploaded to the website are verified before publication. Staff ensures that the cryptographic signatures for new versions of all previously released applications match the original versions. New applications are compared with other applications from the same developer to verify their legitimacy. If the APKMirror team can't verify the legitimacy of a new file, they simply won't publish it.[2][5]

Using the website requires a certain degree of advancement, among others due to the necessity to select the application version adequate to the hardware architecture, screen resolution and operating system version[14]
