Turkmenportal (in Russian: Туркменпортал) is a Turkmenistan news portal in the Russian language, Turkmen language and English language. One of the few non-state online news sites in Turkmenistan, headquarters based at 10 ýyl Abadançylyk Avenue in Ashgabat.[1] It covers politics, business, entertainment, technology, lifestyle, culture and sports. The most visited and largest dynamically developing information resource of the Turkmen Internet, which has no analogues in its category in the country.

History

Turkmenportal was established in 2011. The website officially launched in 2014. According to Alexa, 71% of site visitors are residents of Turkmenistan and 29% are foreign readers.

English version opened in 2019.

The site participates in the affiliate program with international companies Yandex,[2] Google and Rambler news from the Turkmenportal website is promptly indexed by search engines.

The major media regularly share and use information from Turkmenportal, among them information resources from Russia,[3][4] Turkey,[5] Croatia,[6] Azerbaijan,[7][8] Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan,[9][10] Uzbekistan[11] and other countries.

In July 2019, for the first time[12] a representative of Turkmenportal took part in the OSCE 21st Central Asian Media Freedom Conference in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.[13][14]

Content

Turkmenportal features continually updated breaking news, photo[15] and video (also at Youtube channel). Turkmenportal is also known for its editorials, columns and interviews with Turkmen and foreign politicians,[16] famous people of show business[17][18] and sport.[19][20][21][22]

Sports covered

The Russian and Turkmen edition of Turkmenportal covers many sports, including association football,[23] basketball,[24] olympic sports, wrestling, boxing, volleyball, judo, chess, powerlifting, karate as well events such as FIFA World Cup,[25] AFC Asian Cup, Olympics, Asian Games, World Weightlifting Championships.
